How To Create A Space-Themed Bedroom For Your Child

If your child is a budding Astronomer or has aspirations to be the next Tim Peak, a space-themed bedroom would be a big hit! If you haven’t already seen, our Luna, Universe and Stella wall coverings are truly out of this world and perfect for giving your child’s bedroom an intergalactic makeover but there are other things you can do in order to create a bedroom that will ignite their imaginations and add an element of cosmic charm. Here are just a few ideas…

Lunar Lighting

Choosing the right lighting is essential to creating the desired ambience in any room. In a space-themed bedroom, you’re bound to have dark walls which means you need to ensure that every nook and cranny is well lit, or you’ll risk making the room look smaller than it actually is. Blue LED lights under shelving would also provide that extra lighting and your child’s bedroom a futuristic feel. LED spotlights would be a wonderful addition to a “night sky” ceiling and there are some really fun space-themed lamps on the market right now for shelves, desks and cabinets. The Original Moon Lamp™ have a whole range of stunning moon lamps that any little cosmonaut would adore!

Futuristic and Future-Proof Furniture

Aside from the walls, the furniture you choose for your space-themed bedroom is key to creating the celestial look you desire. Minimalistic white furniture or natural wood pieces would complement galaxy walls and can be easily obtained from any major furniture retailer. It should also fit with any changes to décor your child requests as they get older. If you’re not ready to invest in new furniture, upcycling existing pieces by spraying them silver would be both effective and economical!

Add some cosmic bedding and your little one will be more than happy to blast off into the land of nod from their very own mini-universe. We love this Glow In The Dark Fleece Stars Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set from Next!

Astral Accessories

Probably the easiest way to alter or expand on a room’s theme is by introducing new accessories. Rugs, cushions and beanbags can have a significant impact on the look of a room. This Star Rug from John Lewis would look great in a space-themed bedroom.

Bear in mind that any accessories you choose need to be child-proof as well as aesthetically pleasing. Placing expensive and easily breakable items in a child’s room is a recipe for disaster unless well out of their reach. Wooden toys are an excellent option as they can be stylish as well as fun. Anything that shouldn’t be played with should be placed on wall shelves.

Celestial Ceilings

As mentioned previously, ceiling spotlights are an excellent way of creating a starry sky in a child’s bedroom. However, there are plenty of other options for those wishing to recreate the night sky in their little space explorer’s bedroom. Glow in the dark stars, like these ones available on Etsy, can be placed on the ceiling and will provide comfort at night for those afraid of the dark. Solar System models and mobiles are also incredibly effective. You could even have a go at creating your own!

If you want to create a space-themed bedroom for your little one, take a look at our Luna, Universe and Stella murals. Fully customisable and easy to install, they will instantly transform your child’s bedroom.
